How to Get a Domain Name
Domain Name Payment
Most domain name registrars will allow you to submit payment for your domain name
during the registration process. If not, you will receive a bill in the mail/e-mail from the registrant.
As you will be the owner of the domain name, it is your responsibility to make sure the domain name
is paid for. Failing to pay for your domain name, may put your domain on hold, or free it
up again for the public to purchase.
Getting Additional Domain Names
If you choose to register your domains with Network Solutions, they have a system in place to assign
each contact for your domain name a "NIC handle." (This may or may not apply to other registrants). By
performing a "whois" on the Network Solutions web site, you'll be able to obtain your NIC handles. When registering
additional domains through Network Solutions, you'll be given the option of re-entering all of your contact
information in again or simply providing your NIC handles which will access all your contact information
already in their database. This will help you down the road when your contact information changes and you need
to update your NIC handle once as opposed to each and every one of your domain names.
Transferring a Pre-Existing Domain Name to Tivilon
If you've already registered your domain name at any registrant prior to choosing Tivilon for your host, you
will need to log into your registrant's control panel and update the domain name servers (DNS) listed for
your domain. This will point the domain to our server, from where we can have your web site load. To
obtain our DNS information, please contact the Tivilon Support Team
during normal business hours.
Renewing Your Domain Name Registration
Each domain name you register will be set to expire after the number of years that you choose. When the end
of the registration period arrives, you will be contacted at the contact information you have listed for the domain (likely
the information you provided on sign up) to renew the registration.
As you will be the owner of the domain name, it is your responsibility to make sure the domain name
is paid for again, if you'd like to keep it. Failing to pay for your domain name, may put your domain on hold, or free it
up again for the public to purchase.
Domain Name Cancellation
Many registrars will be unable to cancel your domain and/or refund your money to you. The best thing to do is
resell the domain or wait for the registration period to end. If you have a question regarding
your domain name registration, make sure contact your domain name registrant using the contact methods
listed on their web site.
